Karishma Shahani Khan Brought brand-new Prespectives to Fashion at Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2016
Influenced by the aerial sights of landscapes, Karishma Shahani Khan’s label ‘Ka-Sha’ launched the ‘Navya’ collection at Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2016.
Sketching motifs from her surroundings; Karishma was influenced by geometric yet natural organic objects for her designs that provided texture to her designs. Choosing impressive eye-catching primary and secondary shades like tangerine, indigo, mustard, berry, purple, ash, black and Indian red, Karishma remained faithful to her layered soft silhouettes and had subtle embroidery to further improve them.
The fabric manipulation was complex; although detailing played a significant role in showcasing the beauty of the outfits. Patchwork appliques, quilting and clamp dye methods worked wonders for the collection. The choice of materials continued to be pure as handloom cotton, silk and linen formed the basis of the garments.
Highlights of the show were the multi layered outfits each topped with tasselled shawl which are a specialty of Karishma. The tasselled saree with a cape, the origami blouse, soft coat with a tantalising pleated half, the skirt with kurta and the fringed coat over quilted dress brought a touch of freshness to the collection. The blazer played a vital role in bold colours and prints but paired with sarees, or kurtas and outfits.
Bringing large dosage of contemporary design which spoke of Boho chic at times, Karishma Shahani Khan assured that her collection ‘Navya’ for the ‘Ka-Sha’ label offered some fresh and interesting concepts in fashion for the coming season.
Ka-Sha is designed for those planning to experiment – khadi handloom fabrics, checks and fringes, and a lot of layers summarised this fashion show.
